Irina Konstantinovna Rodnina - Merited Master of Sports, many-time Olympic, world, European and USSR pairs skating champion, coach, instructor and public activist Irina Rodnina was born on September 12, 1949.

Irina Rodnina, is only pair skater who has won ten successive world figure skating titles and three successive Olympic figure skating gold medals. In addition, Rodnina won eleven European figure skating pairs championships. She is considered the most successful pair skater in history.

She competed with two different partners, Alexei Ulanov and Alexander Zaitsev.

She was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour (in 1972) and the Order of Lenin (in 1976).

Since 2005 Rodnina is a member of the Public Chamber of Russia.

Rodnina coached numerous elite Soviet skaters and taught at the University of Moscow, and later coached in the United States and led the Czech team of Radka Kovarikova and Rene Novotny to a world title.

In 1989 she was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
